The Road Taken

Chapter 1
I Introduce Myself

Someone always calls me when I am in the shower.
After a blood transfusion, I was cleansing the last spasms of fever from my body.
‘It’s Pramod to see you,’ said Mother, ‘Shall I tell him you’re sleeping?’
‘Tell him I’m coming,’ I said, hurrying to towel myself dry, put on a clean shirt, drag a comb through my hair, when the thing I wanted most was to sleep.
‘Have your lunch,’ complained Mother. ‘It’s 3 o’clock now.’
